The X is for Xtreme

Okay, so “No-Go” on Crossfit. I suppose if I were a little more disciplined and structured, this regimen would have worked out. BUT, I have taken on a new workout regimen, which you may have heard of, called P90X. These are a series of one to one and a half hour workout sessions that seriously kick your butt. But I like these a lot more, and I have more motivation to carry on because I’m working with Ben Cartwright.

Stay Tuned.

“No-Go”

So the Army says when you’ve failed to meet a particular standard.  My first month of CrossFit has been a slight disappointment.  I didn’t exercise nearly as often or as consistently as I intended.  So, I can only improve from here, right?  Here’s a snapshot of month 1:

  • # of workouts in last 29 days: 8
  • longest workout streak (days): 2
  • weight: 137 (no improvement)

“Mary” Workout

Completed 8 sets of the following in 19:45 -

  • 5 pullups
  • 10 pushups
  • 15 squats (no weight)

I only did 3 pullups in sets 6 and 7, then rested for about a minute before set 8 and was able to complete as rx’d.

Slacking

I haven’t worked out in a few days.  Last week was very busy, workwise.  This weekend proved to be even busier, though I had time to fit in 12 hours of Band of Brothers.  This week, my back hasn’t been doing too well.  And that will be my last excuse.  I’ll be back on schedule tomorrow with the exercises.  Sorry Bobby for slacking off.

Am I Getting Stronger?

Maybe. Probably not.

But it seems as though these exercises are getting easier. Now, granted, I haven’t been doing any hardcore Olympic style athletic training modes, and, true, the last week or so’s exercises have been relatively… normal. But I’m inclined to think that this regimen has to be working somewhat. At least I feel stronger, and that’s what really counts, right?

L Pull-ups

These L Pull-ups are hard! I kept dropping my legs. The hand stand push ups were a little difficult too. I definitely used their advice on working up to doing the actual support. I feel the burnnnn!!!!

Killer Workout

Today’s workout, altered from Crossfit’s daily regimen for the ultra-conditioned:

10 GHD Sit-ups
10 Hip & Back Extensions
30 pound Thrusters, 20 reps
10 Pull-ups

30 GHD Sit-ups
30 Hip & Back Extensions
30 pound Thrusters, 15 reps
5   Pull-ups

>> water break <<

10 GHD Sit-ups
15 Hip & Back Extensions

…  Had to stop here, felt light-headed.  Not enough water.

Time – 20:05

This is definitely the toughest workout yet.  I guess why yesterday was a rest day.  I know to listen next time.  Crossfit, thanks for the punishment.

My “Rest” Day

I decided to do a quick jog (soft J) around the hood yesterday. I didn’t time myself, but I felt really good about it. I sprinted the last bit or so, and then bolted it up my drive way. For those of you who have seen my drive way, you know that this is not so easy, especially after running for 20 minutes before. I felt on fire, but in a good way.

I did a few push ups, not much though, and ate. I’m becoming quite the egg expert. An egg-spert of sorts! (lame).

Cheers!
